Starting a Podcast

So many people have turned to working from home, this seems like a good time to start a podcast. It will share the name of this blog, "Tough Little Juggernaut."

The reason for the name is that a juggernaut is a cosmic piece of god-driven machinery, much like the imagination and resilience of a founder. I think that when you are founding a startup and trying to defy conventional wisdom and practice, driving a juggernaut is the closest thing to the experience.

Of course, these folks are human. They are not superhuman. They work hard. They learn fast. They keep cruisin' through the bruisin'. That is worthy of our respect.

This podcast will be a documentation of how different founders across Greater Southeast Asia tackle the vision and the challenges of building a driving a startup. I want to know as much about them as possible. And since I am not that smart, the only way I can do that is ask.

I prefer not to live by assumption, and I also prefer not to be driven by hypotheses. I think the time and tribulation it takes to come up with hypotheses takes away valuable resources and it's just an excuse to wait another two weeks to come up with an answer. I think the way to get an answer is to just ask, and then to dig into the answers as much as you can.

Because I am generous, I think, I want you all to benefit from my digging and asking. I don't want nothing for myself. I want it all for everyone.

Data that shows the scope of change rippling through SE Asia

Here are a couple of slides from a recent Google study called "Swipe Up and to the Right," showing massive numbers for mobile use and e-commerce in parts of Asia. While not all the same, these countries growing at different rates can give even the casual observer some food for thought about how mobile changes the way people work and live in cities. The first slide is one of my favorite. It shows that 50% of the Internet economy in SE Asia happens in these cities. But it also shows that only 15% of the population of these countries lives in cities. This means another 85% of people without the same average means, costs of livings, or access to technology or software are still outside of the scope of economic growth in the technology-empowered category.
